Aspen Highlands Sunshine Powder Day.

Photobucket

Well surprise surprise. Woke up to 3-4" of new snow at Aspen Highlands. Sunshine all day long and was just stunning. Hike up to Highlands Bowl is a must just for the View.  Oh and the skiing in the Bowl was great today.  B1 opened and we got there first. hehehe.

Well as a surprise there was intermittent snow showers throughout the day, that became heavy for a time around 2pm to 6pm.  The hike to the bowl on in this weather was interesting, but well worth it.  G's to B's were open with the North Woods as well.  The woods was the best because you still hit some big rocks in the G's.  But like I said more snow this evening.

Due to serious lack of snow and hazardous conditions. For our own safety we are postponing our video snow reports until we receive significant snowfall or Aspen Skiing Company starts to make snow.

More snow is coming.  Check out our home page for up to the minute information @ www.ASPENSKIANDSNOWREPORT.COM

Well I need my rest for another day tomorrow.  Especially since this spring snow is like the cement that Lake Tahoe resorts get.

Well we got 2-5" of new snow from the base of Aspen Highlands to the top of the "Cloud 9" chair.  More did fall up higher, but with the winds that occur at Aspen Highlands it was difficult to get a true reading of snowfall because of the swirling winds that happen at this mtn.

But Highlands Bowl is like a snow magnet.  Winds just dumps fresh "Angel Snow"  in there.  I found 8-10" in "TEMERITY" with  10-12" blown into the North Gate area of Highlands Bowl.  However, with the winds it felt like you were breaking trail with each step because the boot pack was getting blown over at a rapid pace from the 25-40mph gusts.

Best cruising was on the trails off of the Cloud 9 quad.  Trees were wind slab-drifts-pow-hard slab on western facing slopes.  Lower trails got rather grippy from the wet snow that fell down below 9'500 feet.
And here is a hint.  Highlands Bowl will be very wind snow loaded.  BE THERE OR BE SQUARE.....

The terrain park is holding up well on Highlands, but the jumps take off and landing areas seem to be at altering slope angles making landings very strange on any airs.

Possible snow Saturday night into Sunday on upper elevations.  Make sure you check our Avalanche and Weather page at  www.aspenskiandsnowreport.com/Avalancheandweather.html before you go anywhere in the back country tomorrow.

OK. Let's get to it.   We had a slight dusting of snow.  Boiler plate conditions on any double blacks, glades skiing terrain.  Wind blowing down the mtn increased your speed dramatically so you had to be careful  Seriously conditions kind of sucked today.

However, snow is in the forecast, but with more high winds.  So really have no idea how much will stick.  Best to check our weather page at www.aspenskiandsnowreport.com and see the radar in the morning, with the wind speeds to check how to dress.

With any snow and this warm up then freeze, which caused a 1/2inch ice layer on back country slopes the avalanche danger will be very high.  So check the reports.

THINK SNOW, and do your snow dances.  We need it.

Aspen Mtn, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass Snow Report w/video 4,5 Jan 2011

My legs are so tired, sore, achy, fatigued.  Heck you name it.  But the smile on my face over the last two days has me grinning from ear to ear.  First off a small disclaimer.  I'm the only guy doing this.  Just me.  Only me right now.  I'm doing my best to ski two resorts a day from now on.  So please be patient with me.  I will be texting on slope twitter reports through out the day.  And doing a Live Morning report but only Wed to Friday.  Like I said I'm only one Marine right now doing this assignment.

So let me get started.  On Jan 4th I was at Snowmass ski area.   There was maybe a dusting of 1/2-1" of new snow.  It did start snowing later in the afternoon.  The mtn was empty.  The Cirque trails were open but AMF was boiler plate at entry.   Green Cabin, Dykes, and Lower Ladder were tons of fun.  Below is the video from Snowmass on Jan 4, 2011.

Now today it was just so much fun.  Again I didn't really see many tourists other than those from South America.  We received 2-3" of snow over night.  And it occasional snow squalls in the afternoon.  Highlands had fresh everywhere.  And the farther in the Bowl you went the more fun you had.  Temps were in the lower 20s F.

Aspen Mtn was just as amazing.  Kristie's stole the show for me.  Avalanche danger was minimal.  We do need more snow, but the conditions are great.  For full weather information go to our MAIN WEBSITE.  www.AspenSkiandSnowReport.com for weather and video phone apps.

And don't forget that WINTERSKOL is coming next weekend.  We still need donations for the fireworks.

Daily Honest Snow Report "POWDER POSSE" 21 Nov 2010

Photobucket
Well it started snowing late last night around 11pm.  And it is still snowing.  Upper elevations got about 8" by this morning.   Aspen Highlands was the Powder Posse today where Ski Co let's us locals go up and ski the goods early to pack it down to lower the avalanche danger later in the season.

Don't forget to visit our main website for the most current Avalanche and Weather Information.  And for the video snow reports for Aspen Mtn, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass
